First St Paul’s Lutheran Church is currently seeking a full-time associate pastor who will assist in worship leadership, pastoral care and either youth or educational ministry. Our church is located in Hastings, in south central Nebraska. First St. Paul’s has recently left the ELCA but has been the largest Lutheran church in the community for well over 100 years. Weekend worship attendance averages about 500, both traditional and contemporary in style. Salary will be commensurate with experience. A parsonage will be provided.

- 4 year college degree
– MDiv or the equivalent thereof from an accredited seminary
– Successful criminal history background check
a. Preaching and worship leadership
b. Children’s sermons in rotation with the other staff
c. Weddings and funerals as requested/scheduled
d. Pastoral care as needed
e. Visitation with shut-ins, hospitalized, etc.
f. Maintaining positive productive relationships with other church staff
g. Implement the use of technology and media to stay relevant with our youth
In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above the associate pastor will assume responsibilities in either youth ministries with senior high and college students or educational ministries with both the Sunday morning and Wednesday evening activities. Those responsibilities are listed below.
Additional Education duties:
a. Coordinate the Sunday School Program, preschool through 6th grade, including recruitment and training of teachers.
b. Be the staff liaison for the Wednesday evening planning team to help coordinate the educational units from preschool through 6th grade.
c. Administer Vacation Bible School, including recruitment and training of its staff and leaders.
d. Help to plan educational events/activities (from Bible studies to retreat ideas, etc).
e. Work with the children’s educational committee.
Additional Youth Ministry duties:
a. Supervise the youth program, including Wednesday evening and Sunday morning.
b. Coordinate youth retreats and/or mission trips.
c. Work with the youth committee.
d. Work with college ministry.
